Dijet: At The Cutting Edge Of Milling Cutters Worldwide

196

Dijet Industrial has pioneered the manufacturing of cemented carbides for industries and has worked on the evolution of carbide tools and machining since its inception in 1938. It has the distinction of bringing innovative technologies into the world market, like the first practical use of CERMET, development of ball nose endmills and drills on HOSOI geometry on cutting edges for drilling tools. Even today Dijet continues to develop its own technology for making monoblock diamond products, and gear forming dies with carbide materials, thus saving rare earth. In an interview with Cutting Tools World, Business Head, Ravi Sane gives us insights into the innovative spirit of the company and its large suite of cutting tools and solutions chiseled out to meet the ever-changing demands of critical industries like automotive and aerospace. Excerpts:

Q. Please give an overview of your company and its niche in the world of cutting tools.

We at Dijet are a Cutting Tools company from Osaka, Japan since October 1938.We are highly confident about our products of Indexable milling cutters for Roughing as well as finishing operations. We mainly cater to Machining of various materials required for Die and Mould and Aerospace Industries.

Q. Could you give an idea of your products spectrum and offerings?

As I said, we have a very good range of Indexable Milling cutters for roughing as well as finishing applications. Our basic concept of cutting tools development starts as “New machining procedures => High Speed and High Efficient Machining => High speed and High Precision machining.

New Machining Procedures means we try to develop tools to machine metals with different procedures like plunge milling: same way High Speed and High efficient machining means we develop tools for higher MRR (Metal removal rate) which will give effective utilization of Machine by reducing cycle time, and High speed and High precision machining means we develop tools geometries in such a way that while finishing the job there should not be any material left for recutting; this way we see that even machines are being utilized to achieve highly accurate or precise machining.

Q. What’s your contribution to the die & mold industry?

Dies are the molds used to make all kinds of products, and high-performance machining tools are required because high-precision, high-quality dies affect the performance and appearance of the parts for which they are made. Our company contributes to die and mold machining with indexable carbide milling tools, which is our strength in die and mold machining.

We as Dijet visit all the end-user customers through our distributors network, we demonstrate our tools effective machining solutions by presentation or by actual cutting trials. At many end user customers, we have effectively reduced the cycle time as well as reduced manual polishing, which has helped our customers to manufacture very precise and high-quality Die and Mould. Ultimately end plastic or sheet metal products are produced with high accuracy, which improves the aesthetic look of the final products. The automotive industry is one of the key industries in the world. In automotive manufacturing, there are many manufacturing processes, and the efficiency of the machining process of automotive parts has a great impact on the efficiency of operations.

In the automotive industry, our products contribute to improved productivity, process reduction, and cost reduction at the manufacturing facilities. Machining process of automotive parts has a great impact on the efficiency of operations.

Q. What are the advantages of your double side insert using multi-blade spec?

Economical Double-sided inserts give advantage on the cost of the inserts. We get more number of cutting edges, like we have EXSKS type 6- cutting edges Inserts. Earlier this type of high feed cutter SKS type had only 3 edges per insert. QM-MAX-II type 4 edge cutting inserts, old version was with 2 cutting edges and also, we have XNMU type 14 edges inserts, in which we had 7-cutting edge inserts.

Higher number of cutting edges, helps to reduce the inserts cost.

Q. Your shoulder cutting tool is said to be ideal for overhang machining. Could you elaborate the application of this tool and its advantages?

Indexable tool for high efficient milling with double side insert (4 corners):

This Lineup includes 17 types with high depth of cut and high accuracy and 11 types with high speed. A wide range of work materials can be machined, including general steel, pre-hardened steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and titanium alloys.

Indexable shoulder milling cutter “SHOULDER SIX” EXSIX type have high rigidity 6 corners insert.

  • Corner R size is R0.8 & R1.6.
  • 7.5 mm thickness provides high rigidity, enabling stable machining for roughing.

Q. What are the features and applications of your impact resistant tools?

Impact resistant tools help to work for longer period on interrupted machining areas, which again helps to reduce the cost.

Q. In the automobile industry, machining efficacy and process reduction are crucial. How do your tools contribute to these applications?

As I mentioned earlier, our tools contribute to reduce cycle time and cost and improve the machining efficiency and product quality.

Q. Aerospace industry is another sector demanding high precision cutting tools. What are your offerings to this industry?

For Aerospace Industry we have developed several new grades specially for Titanium, Aluminum & Inconel material machining The grade starts with letters DS.

Q. What’s your differentiated offer to the die & mold industry?

In addition to developing materials and products, we carry out in-house production from the preparation of raw material powder, and we are confident that our customers can trust us because we can guarantee stable, high-quality products. Today, there is no product in the world that does not undergo mechanical processing such as cutting or plastic processing. Even in the field of cutting-edge science, advances in processing technology are essential. In an era of global competition, our company is not bound by custom, and is taking on the challenge of new fields and contributing to the world based on the philosophies of “creative management’ and “developing original technology.’’

Q. Please give some insights into your operations in India and your market penetration.

We started our operations in India in the year 2008, with the aim of selling maximum of our captive products. The technology used in the products being sold around the world , especially in Japan, US and Europe, is the same; In other words, we are supplying the same tools and grades in India as well. We look forward to seeing India as a developed country and a very strong economy in the coming days. Almost 95% OEM’s and 80% of small and Medium size customers of in India are using Dijet range of tools very effectively.

Q. What are the growth prospects of the cutting tools industry in India and what’s your roadmap for making the most of the growth opportunities in a growing economy?

We look forward to India as a developed nation and one of the strongest economies in the making. India has a huge demand for all types of products like Cars, TV, Refrigerators, mobile phones, scooters, and motor bikes and so on. To make these, Dies and Moulds are essential. Machining is an integral part of the manufacturing process, and for machining you need cutting tools. So in the coming years demand for niche and efficient cutting tools is going to double!
